Use Your Magic

Sharing an Art Journal page today.

This one came about while I was working on a canvas piece.
I was using a blank page in my journal to clean the paint off from my brush as I worked.
(bonus: doing this gives you a ready made background next time you want to work in your journal)

Anyway as I worked on the canvas I was drawn more and more to my journal.
To the point the canvas is sitting on my desk waiting to be finished.

I had an idea for the page and I had to go with it.

I used Liquitex acrylic paints for the background.
There wasn't a whole lot of thinking at that point, it was all about not wasting paint.

My butterfly was created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil.
I traced it then filled the inside with tore book text.
A light wash of Gesso and then added color with my Gelatos,
blending as I went with my finger.
I used the second part of the stencil to overlay the swirls using Silk's Acrylic Glaze
and finally outlining with a black Gelato.

Black Marble Dylusions mist through a number stencil in random spots.
The black has got to be one of my favorites as for how dark it stays.
There is also lots of random stamping using several stamps and inks (Staz-On and Distress inks)

The words were stamped on tissue paper and then adhered to the page.
I was watching an episode of Project Runway the other day.
In it Tim Gunn and one of the designers were sitting by the water talking and these words were stenciled on a rock.

From the moment I saw them I knew I had to use them.
We all have magic, we just need to use it.

That's it for today.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great one.

October Round Robin with Swirlydoos

Sharing my entry for this month's
Round Robin over at

Every month I take the chance and join up with this amazing challenge.
It's so much fun to see how the layouts evolve week after week.

It's my turn to share a layout.
Team 1 Week 3
I followed Maggi and Kimberly on my team.
The theme this month was
Get your spook on….

How appropriate with Halloween coming up.

This is what I created.
Using mostly supplies from past kits including paper, mediums and embellishments.
The image is from
Polly's Paper Studio.
Totally reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe's
The Raven

I transformed lots of miscellaneous flowers using
a copper paint dabber.

Black gesso and Lindy's Stamp Gang mists were used to alter
the background paper.
The chipboard clock and keys were also colored with Lindy's.

Black netting added in spots.

Head over to Swirlydoos and check out what the other teams have done this month.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge 18….LAYER IT!

Hey everyone!
It's time for another challenge at

Challenge 18
(can you believe we have already had 18 challenges? How awesome!)

                                                              Challenge #18 Layer It!
One good way to use your hoard is to use lots of it all at once!
So, let's see those layers! We need to see at least THREE layers on your project! (Ink, paint, embossing, and mixed media products do count as layers!) Drag out all of that hoarded paper or those embossing folders that are in the back of the drawer. Use those stamps, dies, and punches! Show us the layers!
This is my piece.
It has 9 or 10 layers on it (I lost count lol).
Combining an awesome image from past sponsor
with our 2 sponsors this challenge
along with a bunch of stuff from my hoard I was able to layer away.
Supplies:
Paper: Echo Park, Stampington
Black Gesso: Golden
Embossing Powder & Mist: Lindy's Stamp Gang
Fabric: Canvas Corp
Metal: Dazzle
Collage Image: Polly's Paper Studio
Embossing Folder: Sizzix
Other: ribbon, sticker, flowers, doily

The clocks were created by running a sheet of Dazzle metal through a Sizzix embossing folder then fussy cutting them out.

More of my clocks. The metal worked perfectly with the embossing folder.

Some of the fabric, metal, paper and mists layers.

We have 2 sponsors for this challenge:

The Best Thing About Sisters…..

I confess
I "borrow" pictures from my kids instagram accounts all the time.
Some of the shots they get along with the filters
they add make me happy.
Even more what they write, goes from silly to inspiring.

Today I am sharing a layout I created using one such picture and the May kit from
Since I absolutely loved what she had written I felt this time around I needed to include
it on the page.
The words are just as important as the picture here.
Papers are from Authentique and Kaisercraft.

Stenciling using a Crafter's Workshop stencil and Tsukineko ink.
Misted with Trunk Bay Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

The wooden letters are from Prima, the flowers from Petaloo.
There is also pieces of a Kaisercraft transparencies, lace and masking tape layered under
the photo.

"Having a sister is like having a best friend
you can't get rid of.
They suck at times but they're always there
when you need them"

Today's words of wisdom….

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge 17 HAPPY FALL Y'ALL

It's time for another fantastic challenge over at

                                                          Challenge #17 Happy Fall, Y'all!
Many of us like to purchase NEW seasonal products EVERY season. What happens to last year's fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving products? We HOARD them! Drag out those hoarded fall-themed items and make a project to share with us! You can make something for fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or any other fall or harvest celebration!

Challenge 17 is sponsored by
Check out her store! She has some absolutely fantastic collage images.

For my piece I created a page in my art journal.
I wanted to just play and with Halloween just around the corner my muse went that way.
Supplies:
Polly's Paper Studio Collage images
Lindy's Stamp Gang mists
Dusty Attic Chipboard
Echo Park paper and die cuts
Tim Holtz stamps
Tissue paper, cardboard, doily & tape

The chandelier is from Dusty Attic and colored with Lindy's Stamp Gang
Screamin Banshee Black mist.
I love how it mirrored the one in the collage image almost perfectly.

Up close of some of the images from the store.

The background is various Lindys mists which I spread with a wet paintbrush.
Stamping with several stamps and Solvent ink.

More of the layers.
Tissue paper and tape also are added for more layers.
Cardboard from a box and doily also added under the focal image.

I'm in love with all the images from the store.
Can't wait to create more with them!

Make sure to stop by the other team members blogs to see what they have created, and welcome the newest member Wendy to the group.

Then make sure to head over to Craft Hoarders Anonymous and link up your fall project.
                                                             You have 2 weeks.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Sisters

It's Friday (YAY)
and I'm ready to kick off the weekend with this piece.

Sharing a layout today created using the September kit from
I love how everything included just always "works" for what I want to create.

I took a pic of the 2 youngest on the first day of school.
(yes it was 2 months ago but I get distracted, or maybe I was just waiting for the kit)
They fight like cats and dogs most days but that morning it was all hugs and kisses.

The background paper is from Prima and Kaisercraft.
There is also a torn piece of free paper from an old Somerset Studio magazine under the photo.

Prima tags, Prima flowers, lace, clocks from Maya Road and cork hearts from
American Crafts.

Hard to see but there is a piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard
covered with Black Glitter Glue
and layered under the photo as well.

more clustering…
Some stamping and stenciling with a Crafter's Workshop stencil.
2 different Glimmer Mists were used on the background as well.
Mostly because half of my sprayers weren't working today, and ones that did quit half way through.
Major frustration!

Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day!

Art Journal page for today

Sharing another page from my Art Journal today.
I have a ton of this to do but as usual I'm more in the mood to just mess around and create just to create.

This one started as a sheet where I had cleaned stencils off from another project.
If you look closely you can still see some of the patterns on the bottom layer.

Followed by layering both sewing pattern tissue paper
as well as polka dot tissue paper.
Some stamping with a Tim Holtz stamp and StazOn ink.

More misting with Dylusions mists to add some pops of color.
Followed up with some Stained Glass glaze medium by Tattered Angels.
Love how it is sheer enough to let everything under show up but still adds some vibrant color.

The stars are created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil and white acrylic paint pen.
The center piece is a tag from Canvas Corp.
It's also colored with the Tattered Angels glaze medium.
Heavy at the top and less at the bottom.

Now off to actually get some of my to do list done before the kids get home.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
